Maybe it wasn’t even worth it to go into the shop this morning because we ended up closing four hours later anyway. A couple of large storm systems are moving through Orange County this week, causing heavy rains (according to west coast standards), severe winds, flooding, some tornados, and some hail in places. When I arrived, the weather seemed calm, but it quickly picked up within the hour. Not a soul came by the store, and I don’t blame them! I did see some people braving the tempest with their golf umbrellas, but the weather was just so darn unpleasant. Given that we rely on good weather so that daytime wine sippers can sit on the patio, it was just not a good day to be open!
I got a call from one of the owners at about 1:30pm asking if anyone had come by (no), and if we should just close up shop for the evening (probably). Cameron and Paige, our two main kitchen wizards, had just arrived, too. It turns out, they still wanted their end-of-shift beer, so I waited around for them to enjoy themselves before turning out the lights. Just before leaving, the sky just opened up. It looked like solid water outside for at least 2-3 minutes. I checked the weather reports before hitting the road, and heard there was a tornado touch-down in my town, and that water spouts, or tornados on the water, had been seen off the coast. I do wish I could have seen that. How gorgeous!
When I got home, I just decided that the best thing to do during a storm is to sleep.
I will post photos tomorrow!
