Hello, dear readers. I am taking a shortcut for this post, and am sending you a link to my Culture Magazine blog post on cheese tasting at Point Reyes.
Things have been pretty hectic in Miss Cheesemonger’s world. For the past month, I’ve decided to take the plunge into the world of opera, and to really explore it as fully as possible. I’ve loved opera for a long time now, loved singing for even longer, and my brain is telling me that now is the time I have to see what is possible for me to pursue in that realm. You know that niggling sensation that tells you that you MUST do something? It’s like that, but this feeling has been going on for at least five years, most likely eight. So, there you have it. I’m finally scoping things out. Luckily, everything has been fabulous.
I decided to get some theatrical experience by becoming a supernumerary for the San Francisco Opera’s Nixon in China this summer. Or rather, I got really lucky, and somehow, I got in. We must have been rehearsing 20 hours per week at one point. Opening night was on June 8, and since then, I’ve noticed the house growing increasingly full with each performance. My fellow supernumerary, Tess Holthe, who is also a rather popular authoress, penned a little blog post for the opera about the experience. I would post a picture here, but it looks like my new image uploading function doesn’t really work yet.
Since I’m running my own business all at the same time, it’s been tough to do much cheesing. A couple weeks ago, I did have a wonderful conversation with Carlos Yescas of Lactography, and I hope to write about that soon. He was so easy to talk to, and we had a lot of fun nerding out about cheese and law.
But hey, you may have noticed that Miss Cheesemonger’s website has a new look. Mr. Cheesemonger and I decided it was time to move to something cleaner. He’s working on improving the image-loading and displaying capabilities, which is another reason for the jump to a new look. The old one made working with so many images too cumbersome!
If you’re attending any of the Nixon in China shows at the SF Opera, let me know! I’d love to say hi!
I’m prepping some new posts now, so you will not be left in the dark too long.
