Hello, my friends. This week, I’m winding down from some things, and gearing up for others—some cheese, some not. There has been much joy, but also recently, much sadness. My heart is full with all of it.
Most importantly to me, my grandfather, my mother’s father, passed away on Friday afternoon after a fall and its subsequent complications. He has always been such a patient, loving force in our family’s lives; I will miss him sorely. Some of my earliest memories of him involve him sneaking me pieces of Vietnamese sesame candy he kept hidden under his bed. Later, as his digestive ailments increasingly limited his ability to eat certain foods, he still made sure to indulge in an apple turnover or other pastry regularly. Seeing all of the love with which my grandmother prepared daily meals for him as our family dogs happily scampered between them make for many beautiful, inspiring, joyful vignettes.
Even in the presence of so much sadness, many good things continue to happen, and I am grateful for all of it. Photographing people has become one of my great passions. I had the privilege of photographing this beautiful party at the View in San Francisco a few weeks ago (where I got to meet Andrew Zimmern!!), and have been documenting backstage life while performing. I’ve got a number of portrait and lifestyle sessions coming up over the next several weeks, which I’m very excited about! My appreciation for the rich art of portraiture keeps growing, as does my awe of the beauty of the human spirit. I can feel lots of areas where I can improve, but I am also relishing the enormous freedom newly afforded me as I pick up the camera and create something beautiful with my subjects.
In addition to this, I still strive to bring you quality content on Miss Cheesemonger! There’s some cute stuff coming up.
Thank you for continuing to share in this journey! See you soon.
